The firm delivers both consulting services and a portfolio of technology and data-based products across a variety of industries with a service-to-product revenue mix of roughly 60% services and 40% products on a consolidated basis.

The Opportunity:

This is a transformational hire for the Global Corporate Services (GCS) organization. We seek an insightful, effective and credible technology leader to establish a cooperative liaison between the Shared Services IT organization and the firm's Practices, built around mutual respect and by establishing the IT organization as a business partner, who understands Milliman's lines of business, provides technology insights and leadership, supports innovation, demonstrates a service-orientation and consistently delivers secure, cost-effective IT services. This CIO position is based in Seattle.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the COO, the CIO will be responsible for developing and leading the implementation of a winning IT strategy for the firm, including the IT architecture, infrastructure, data management, security and change management required for business success. Additionally, as a member of the enterprise executive leadership team, the CIO will contribute their technology expertise to the development and execution of the firm's overall business strategy and operating model.

The CIO must, in equal measure, excel in delivering solutions to serve: 1) the firm's corporate functions such as Human Resources and Finance, etc.; 2) the consulting activities of each Practice; and 3) facilitate each Practice's development and delivery of strategic commercial-for-sale IT-based products in order to ensure security, regulatory compliance, cost-effectiveness and resiliency across the firm.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategy - Develop a firm-wide IT strategy that centralizes those functions, tasks and policies, which benefit in quality, compliance, security and cost-effectiveness from centralization, while maintaining the Practices' ability to respond quickly and effectively to market opportunities with SaaS application development within their units.
  • Cloud - The IT strategy should, where appropriate, include a migration plan to move the firm to a cloud-based infrastructure in an expeditious, secure and cost-effective manner.
  • Establish GCS IT as a source of IT insight, Leadership & Service - The reputation of the IT organization currently suffers from a lack of confidence in its technology acumen, innovation and service delivery. Significant work and attention are required to reverse this perception and establish the GCS IT organization as a trusted resource as Practices increasingly offer digital solutions to their clients.
  • Service - Establishing the GCS IT organization as a responsive, reliable, innovative and cost-effective provider of services to the Practices and other corporate departments is essential.
  • Support of Practice Application Development - GCS IT must develop and deliver a firmwide integrated strategy and platform to support those efforts and the delivery of those SaaS applications securely, reliably and cost-effectively to clients.
  • Cyber and Physical Security - GCS IT must take the lead in developing cyber and physical security policies and procedures to protect the firm and monitor Practice compliance with those policies particularly in light of the firm's global footprint and the significance of GDPR and other regulatory requirements.
  • Technology Procurement and Lifecycle Management - GCS IT must enhance current procurement, support and lifecycle management policies and, procedures, creating a service-oriented culture, which delivers such cost-effective, consistent and timely results Practices use GCS IT because they cannot deliver the same on their own.
  • Extensive Interaction with Practices - The CIO must engage with the Practices to earn their trust, confidence and buy-in to the strategies, policies and procedures, and service offerings she/he proposes and implements.
  • Deliver - The CIO must take ownership of and deliver against these objectives.

Qualifications:

We seek a highly confident, emotionally intelligent, motivated, astute and articulate IT executive with a proven track record of affecting change, and the character to build rapport, trust and consensus. Key qualifications include:

  • A track record of success influencing and leading large, complex and/or transformational initiatives.
  • A proven track record establishing a cloud-first strategy and successfully transitioning data storage and compute power to a hybrid environment.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders effectively across the organization and within complex contexts, preferably in a professional services partnership operating in a highly distributed environment.
  • Post-graduate degree in technology, information management or a related field or the equivalent through education or experience.
  • 15 years or more years of experience in business areas or within IT.
  • Ideally, five or more years of experience in related, industry-leading, large, cross-functional teams or enterprise-wide programs, and comfortable in environments heavily reliant on matrix management.
