Job Description

Current City of Takoma Park Police Department Police Officers may apply for promotional positions within the guidelines of the department's procedures. Please be sure to make yourself aware of and adhere to the procedures. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Human Resources.

The Corporal position within the City of Takoma Park is a non-exempt position, classified at a grade 119 with a minimum wage annualized at$63,189 and median wage annualized at$100,251. Below is a general overview of responsibilities and duties:

  • Patrols the City to detect and deter crime and to provide services to the general public; responds to calls for service.
  • Investigates crimes; secures crime scenes and collects evidence; interviews complainants and witnesses; interrogates suspects; conducts follow-up investigations; makes arrests.
  • Conducts surveillance of suspects.
  • Processes and maintains evidence.
  • Analyzes case information, data, crime reports and background checks.
  • Prepares cases for trial; testifies in court as required.
  • Prepares incident reports.
  • Attends community meetings.
  • Completes required training.
  • Supervises personnel in the absence of the Sergeant; conducts roll call; coordinates the work of patrol officers and/or detective as assigned.
  • Performs the duties of a K9 Officer, as assigned; trains, cares for, and employs canine in the field.
  • Performs related duties.
