Primary Purpose of Position | This 12-month tenure-track position serves as the Theatre Program Director/Executive Director, Paul Robeson Theatre. The position teaches beginning and intermediate acting, and Shakespeare, with special emphasis on Hagen, Adler, Chekov, Stanislavsky, and Silvera. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing two main stage productions per year, teach two classes (six credit hours) per semester, and participate in curriculum development, recruiting and advising theatre majors. Service to the program, department, college and university are also expected. The administrative responsibilities of the program director include managing instructional programs, budgetary management, faculty development, instruction, departmental assessment and accreditation functions and interfacing with the accrediting body. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 160 faculty members. The mission of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts is to provide students with exceptional professional programs, which combine development in artistic disciplines and career preparation in the arts. The department offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Professional Theatre with concentrations in Acting and Theatre Technology, and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). |
Minimum Requirements | The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree in Fine Arts, and have knowledge and experience with the National Association of Schools of Theatre's accrediting standards and procedures. Candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a dedication and passion for teaching, and enjoy working collaboratively and collegially with colleagues. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Preference will be given to candidates with more than five years of college teaching experience, and with professional acting and/or directing experience. Candidates should should have an established national portfolio of scholarly and creative activity in the theatre arts. In addition to academic and directing experience, affiliation with the Actor's Equity Association or the Screen Actors Guild is desirable. |
