Thank you for your interest in vessel crew employment opportunities with Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for ocean and earth science research, education, and public service in the world. Research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans and earth.
The Scripps Fleet of three oceanographic research vessels and the research platform FLIP make up one of the largest academic fleets in the world. Scripps' ships include the flagship global-class research vessel R/V Roger Revelle, named after the former Scripps director and founder of UC San Diego; the R/V Sally Ride, an ocean-class ship named in honor of the late Sally Ride, the first American woman in space as part of NASA's Space Shuttle Challenger crew, and member of UC San Diego's physics faculty; and the R/V Robert Gordon Sproul, named after the eleventh President of the University of California, a regional-class vessel that conducts short missions off the U.S. West Coast.
