The Dewberry New York City office has an excellent opportunity for a Coastal or Marine Engineer with 4-8 years of experience in coastal or marine engineering with an emphasis on the design of waterfront and coastal structures. It is preferred that the Coastal or Marine Engineer is located in the New York City office but the selected person can be located in other Dewberry offices and/or work remotely. The engineer will serve as a technical lead or as a Project Manager on a variety of waterfront and coastal engineering-related projects and should be capable to perform coastal conditions calculations and structural analysis and develop/review design drawings for various types of coastal structures. The engineer will support planning, engineering, and construction of various coastal shoreline protection and stabilization, habitat restoration, marine/waterfront structures, sea-level rise, and mitigation studies or projects. The engineer will participate in the development of proposals, assist in business development, present at conferences, participate in professional organizations, and will have the opportunity to grow nationally.

Responsibilities
    Candidates should have skills demonstrating knowledge and application of advanced analysis of coastal processes such as currents, waves, storm surge, sediment transport, morphology, and wave-current-structure interaction, and coastal wind-wave-water level analyses.
  • Candidate should be able to perform engineering analysis; develop preliminary and detailed designs of coastal and marine facilities; and write specifications and construction documents.
  • Application of the US Army Corps of Engineer's Coastal Engineering Manual, Shore Protection Manual, ACES, and EuroTop is an advantage.
  • Strong GIS skills and knowledge of riverine hydrology, hydraulics, and floodplain management is a plus.
  • Candidate must have strong technical writing and communication skills.

  • BS or MS degree (with an emphasis in Coastal, Ocean, or Marine Engineering or Science)
  • At least 3 years of experience in coastal, ocean, or marine engineering; 4-8 years is strongly desired.
  • Thorough knowledge of FEMA's Guidelines and Specifications for coastal zones and U.S Army Corps of Engineers Manuals
  • Knowledge of coastal engineering design such as revetments, groins, beach nourishment, marsh creation, bulkheads, breakwaters, and dredging
  • Experience using ArcGIS & AutoCAD or similar programs
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic modeling programs such as MIKE, DELFT, CMS, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is a plus
  • Experience in proposal and business development is a plus
  • New York PE Certification is preferred or ability to reciprocity within 6 months
  • Ability to individually manage small stand-alone projects and be part of a team on big multi-disciplinary resilience-related projects
  • Having a local NYC experience is a plus.
  • A clean driving record is required
