Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, plus:
Building Inspector I: Three years of experience in trade specialty area or in general building construction and/or codes inspection or enforcement, or closely related field.
Building Inspector II: Three years of experience in trade specialty area or general building construction with one year of experience in construction codes inspection, enforcement or closely related field, and certification as a Commercial Inspector and Residential Inspector in trade specialty.
Building Inspector III: Three years of experience in trade specialty area or general building construction experience with two years of experience in construction codes inspection, enforcement, or closely related field; PLUS certification as a Residential Inspector and Commercial Inspector in trade specialty; and certification as a Combination Residential Inspector.
Substitution: Apprenticeship and/or trade school training related to specialty area may substitute for up to one (1) year of general experience on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with an Associate degree in related field and one or more of the following:

Building Inspector positions may be filled at level I, II, or III based on candidate's experience and qualifications. The salaries listed are listed below.
The salary range for Building Inspector I is $47,236.80 - $72,113.60
The salary range for Building Inspector II is $54,641.60 - $83,449.60
The salary range for Building Inspector III is $58,427.20 - $89,273.60
Positions require climbing ladders and going into trenches, walking up stairways, accessing small spaces and spending several hours a day standing and/or walking. Substantial time is spent outdoors or in buildings under construction/renovation in all types of weather conditions.
Work hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasionally, inspections are scheduled outside of normal work hours. Inspectors normally start and end the workday in the office and are required to participate in meetings and task groups.
