National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for a Principal Applications Systems Engineer in Washington, DC.

Job Duties: Responsible for development, enhancement, and innovation of technical solutions. Consult on project planning process with customers, IT Business Analysts, Architects and team members. Work with customers to develop and analyze application packages and tools and determine optimum functionality requirements to meet those needs. Work closely with Architects and Development team to document the detailed design specifications and assist in sizing technical requirements. Identify better sources of data feeds and interface with Architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse, when needed. Provide technical guidance on software design and development activities to implement integration plans. Define, develop or modify software application modules or enterprise wide software systems using disciplined development processes. Document functions and changes to new or modified modules, and test activities/results and other areas, such as error handling and backup/recovery procedures. Assist in defining development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development/integration. Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation. Adhere to quality standards and procedures. Review modules for quality assurance and check compliance with application architecture standards and SLAs. Participate in Scrum activities, perform code reviews, and ensure software meets quality standards with automation and DevOps. Perform or lead the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes. Provide ongoing maintenance of applications. Interface with testing teams to incorporate plans into integration testing process. Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members, and provide system process expertise. Develop reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.

Requirements: Employer will accept Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Management, or related field and 2 and a half years (30 months) of work experience in job offered or 2 and a half years (30 months) of work experience in a related occupation. Position requires: 1.Object oriented programming skills using Java; 2.Service Oriented Architecture; 3.API development for SOAP and REST based services; 4.Data Power and Mulesoft; 5.Programming or systems analysis experience; 6.Understanding of transportation/travel industry information systems; 7.Working on software enhancements and/or maintenance projects using J2EE, XSLT, HTTPS, and encryption techniques; 8.Design and Develop cloudhub integrations using Mulesoft Anypoint platform, API manager and exchange; 9.AWS cloud development using Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB or Aurora, and Redshift; 10.Datapower appliance Integrations, Development and support; 11.Developing SOAP/XML webserivces and REST/JSON API with RAML; 12.Continuous integration and continuous delivery; 13.Using Jenkins or Hudson, and version tools Bitbucket/SVN; 14.Working on Agile projects; and 15.Systems requirements processes. May telecommute from home. This position requires pre-employment background verification, medical review, and pre-employment drug screen.
