The West Virginia University School of Medicine and Department of Orthopaedics are seeking a Musculoskeletal Oncologic Clinician/Scientist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.
Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the area of musculoskeletal oncology. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, it is expected that candidates sustain an outstanding, extramurally supported research program.
Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible to obtain a West Virginia medical license. Successful candidate must have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency program, as well as musculoskeletal oncology fellowship program. Successful candidates must be board certified in orthopaedic surgery. Candidates who are not board certified / board eligible who possess extraordinary ability and demonstrated track record may be considered at the discretion of the Chief Medical Officer. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor ranks, a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and publications in high-impact journals are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
This position will carry a 60% clinical component and 40% research. The focus of the clinical practice is on all orthopaedic cancer care, primary and metastatic disease as well as infections, and we have a large referral base. Opportunity for complicated arthroplasty exists but is not required. WVU Medicine has a multi-institutional sarcoma board that meets twice monthly to discuss cases. Our research initiatives are directed toward translational work in the area of sarcoma using nanotechonology, immunotherapy, and immunodiagnostics. We are reaching our goal of expertise in all sub-specialty areas of Orthopaedics, including spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, and musculoskeletal oncology. Our faculty are fellowship trained and respected nationally, but we emphasize more than surgical expertise - our mission is to provide excellence in patient care and customer service in the delivery of that care. As a part of a major academic teaching center, we use a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and education of our patients. Our physicians have easy access to a full range of specialists.
