Covanta has embarked on its Continuous Improvement journey and we are seeking high potential A-players to help create and implement the CI strategy from ground zero. As an experienced Lean Six Sigma practitioner with a history of leading change, you will want to be a part of the team that will set the foundation for Covanta's Continuous Improvement initiative. The Director of Continuous Improvement will lead and direct the implementation of structured improvement processes to ensure strategic, operational and tactical improvements are realized throughout the organization. The position will insure improvement projects directly improve EBITDA and follow rigorous/thoughtful change management discipline to insure all stakeholder needs are managed appropriately. Scope will include both transformational and incremental improvement projects in the following areas: Margin enhancement, Facility operations, Asset Management, Maintenance Management, Ash and Metals Recovery, Plant On-stream, Regulatory constraint management, Waste dumping/handling cycle times, and back office operations. Multi-plant, international experience a must, knowledge of M&A also required. This role can be based at our DelVal facility in Chester, PA or at other facilities in the area. Key responsibilities include: *Develops and champions business improvement planning processes that aligns and prioritizes improvement projects linked to business strategy and business planning at corporate and operational levels. *Optimizes, implements and maintains power, production and waste handling capacities for all sites. *Leads the development and implementation of operational excellence metrics directly related to the scope of responsibilities, including improvement reporting processes. *Willingness to learn and use new/advanced tools to understand the data to improve speed and quality of decision making at leadership team level. Develop the skills to use DMAIC and PDCA (including gate reviews) as the core improvement project execution process. Note, business case review and approval is a critical stage gate for every project. *Optimize the revenue, cost and output of new facilities. Examples include Margin Enhancement, FLOW MFG, Value Engineering, and Maintenance Planning. *Collaborates with leadership cross-functionally to ensure effective execution of improvement projects and realization of EBITDA impact. *Successfully demonstrate the use of the tools and teaching others to develop sustainable improvements while working in a team environment. Note, most resources will be managed at the facility level, although a small central team might be required to work on corporate/business improvement processes, manage cross functional or transformational improvement projects or support the improvement planning process.
Education: *BS degree in industrial engineering/manufacturing engineering preferred. Exceptional candidates without a degree will also be considered. Experience: *Experience with Energy, Chemical or similar industries (industrial, manufacturing, process) is highly desired. *5+ years of experience in a multi-plant domestic and international operations leadership/management position will be a plus. *Lean Enterprise and Six Sigma experience with a track record of delivering savings is required. *Master Black Belt required, or equivalent expectation and knowledge to achieve Master Black Belt certification within 12 to 18 months. *Experience with change management. *Financial management knowledge or experience will be a plus. *Previous Mergers and Acquisition experience including footprint rationalization is a strong preference. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: *Strong project management skills. *Excellent verbal and written communication skills. *Strong interpersonal and team building skills. *Strong financial acumen and attention to detail and ability to utilize industry tools, hardware and software to successfully achieve goals. *Understanding and ability to ensure compliance with rules, certifications and regulations. *Knowledge of power generation, plant maintenance management, quality assurance programs, and safety programs in an operations environment preferred. Other Requirements: *Willing and able to travel as needed. *Minimum 50% travel expected. Travel may exceed 75% in the initial phase of the roll out.
