AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking a Research Assistant to join our team in Crystal City, Virginia. The Research Assistant will provide support on several large-scale national and international education surveys, for example, the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will assist on a day-to-day basis in support of activities pertaining to international assessments. Work activities will primarily include:

    Researching topics pertaining to international education
  • Assisting with data analysis
  • Conducting data quality checks
  • Preparing and reviewing data tables, figures, and data documentation
  • Assisting with writing and the review of research papers and statistical reports
  • Revising manuscripts in response to editorial and technical comments
  • Preparing products for release based on detailed publication standards
  • Assisting with website updates
  • Developing presentations for professional audiences
Qualifications
  • A./B.S. in fields such as statistics, economics, sociology, psychology, statistics, computer science, or other related fields
  • Ability to work under conditions requiring careful attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities under time constraints
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences
  • Interest in research in education; comparative and international studies; content areas such as mathematics, science, or reading; or general social science topics
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients
  • Preferred: Quantitative research experience and experience working with one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).
