I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The DAR (Development and Alumni Relations) division is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

Established in 1865, the George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in the nation's capital and one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. The Law School is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. GW Law is located on the GW campus in the downtown DC neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.

School-based alumni engagement, donor relations and annual giving staff work in close collaboration with the central Office of Alumni Relations, central Office of Donor Relations and central Office of Annual Giving to coordinate planning and scheduling, to set the overarching alumni engagement/donor relations/annual giving strategies and to incorporate best practices in alumni engagement/donor relations/annual giving, insuring both consistency and high-quality standards in all university and School-based programming.

This senior position manages a team of alumni, annual giving and donor relations staff members and works with the unit's Assistant Vice President by offering input on the strategic direction for School-based constituent engagement and stewardship activities. This position oversees a comprehensive School-based donor relations program focused on the cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective major gift and leadership level donors. This role collaborates in the development of customized reports and related products and services that report the impact of donations on GW faculty, students and programs to senior leadership, including the chief development officer. This role coordinates the School-based (within campus-wide) standards for donor recognition, activities and events. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, gives input on hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, and manages performance.

Within the Law School, the position provides management of various advisory council activities and organized meetings, which includes specific management of the GW Law Alumni Association and its committees. Also, this role oversees the School's affinity alumni groups and annual Law Reunion weekend programming and logistics.

This role will serve as the Law DAR office's liaison with the Law Alumni Mentor program office, Law Communications office, Law Admissions/Financial Aid office and Law Finance office (for budgeting and endowment reporting) in coordination with the Assistant Vice President of the Law DAR office.

The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
