SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Sr. Director, Business Development, will have a primary focus in California initiatives but will also help advance the outreach and develop policy for Amtrak’s State Supported services. The incumbent leads the process of identifying opportunities in the country’s fastest growing rail markets to develop state supported train services. He or she coordinates the work of internal partners (including Planning, Finance, Operations, and Mechanical) to set criteria for business success, and leads the process of identifying and analyzing those opportunities to produce business and revenue results. This person is a key liaison between Amtrak and vital external partners and stakeholders, including (but not limited to) JPAs, commuter authorities, local elected officials, State DOTs, and other stakeholders. He or she provides effective two-way communication between these entities and the Executive Vice President and Vice President and advises them and other senior leaders on business opportunities for this region. The incumbent also assists the VP in advancing other business development opportunities as they arise.
The incumbent is the key liaison with the Amtrak Services group and works in an advisory capacity with that organization to develop commuter rail and intermodal business opportunities. He or she is a partner in the planning, development, implementation, coordination, monitoring and oversight of high-profile state-supported and commuter rail business opportunities. Though located in Washington, DC, the incumbent will be expected to divide their time between the West Coast and other areas to identify and advance opportunities as they arise.
