We are currently accepting applications for a Research & Development Intern for the Summer of 2020. This position will be based out of Corporate Office facility on the east side of Madison, WI, ranked the "Best Place to Live 2015" by Livability.com. This position will report to the R&D Product Development Manager.

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the R&D Intern is to support and contribute to the R&D Innovation Team by helping to solve a technical problem over the course of a summer internship. The project results and findings will be reported at the end of the internship. Additonally the intern will help create chocolate and coating samples in a laboratory setting and assist with formulating items designed to meet the sensory and nutritional requirements of a project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Design a research project to help solve a real technical problem. Collect and analyze data to make recommendations for strategies to solve a current technical need.
  • Use of laboratory equipment such as lab size refiners, mixers, viscometers, micrometers, and depositors.
  • Create formulations and bench top samples for sales and customer evaluation within agreed time frame.
  • Participate in normal functioning of innovation lab
  • Participate in plant trials in full-scale manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure all research is documented in lab notebooks and project files.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years completed toward a BS-Food Science Degree; Food Engineering or related field of study
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Work near allergens, such as peanut, tree nuts, dairy, and soy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt
  • Ability to work well on a team
  • Detail oriented and accuracy is essential
  • Good time management skills
