    Overview

    Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.

    The Licensing Associate is responsible for a portfolio of commercial use inquiries and in/out-licensing opportunities, negotiates out-license agreements and other collaborative agreements as assigned. The incumbent is responsible for revenue generation associated with out-licensing. The incumbent is responsible for timely and accurate input of information and managing data and metrics in the Inteum database and other tools used by the team. Provides operational support to the Sr. Director, Contracts Licensing and IP as assigned. This position must work and think independently completing duties in a timely manner with acceptable quality under minimal guidance. Discretion in handling assigned responsibilities, including the ability to resolve problems and exercise good judgment while maintaining confidentiality.

    Responsibilities
    1. Efficiently manages day-to-day operations of assigned portfolio of the commercial licensing program for ATCC assets. Generates licensing revenue that meets or exceeds plan.
    2. Prioritizes out-license opportunities according to the licensing strategy from general and commercial use inquiries and works with business units to identify potential in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities.
    3. Negotiates and drafts licensing agreements, following the licensing playbook guidelines. Reviews and negotiates other collaborative agreements (such as CDAs, MTAs, MDAs, and Amendments) in support of ATCC needs, as required.
    4. Implements processes for efficient and cost-effective management of deal flow as assigned and assists with the contract compliance program.
    5. Tracks the licensing process from initial contact through execution, accurately inputs data in the Inteum licensing database, and provides regular licensing metrics updates and reports to senior management.
    6. Participates in multi-functional teams to implement ATCC commercial licensing program and provide licensing strategy and support consistent with organizational goals.
    7. May perform IP assessments as needed to ensure availability of ATCC assets for out-licensing and internal new product development.
    8. May assist with Freedom-to-Operate and Compliance processes as needed.
    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or business/intellectual property law.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in licensing, technology transfer or contracts administration in academic or life sciences corporate setting required.

    • Position-relevant computer experience including Microsoft Office.
    • Follow all company safety practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and policies.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Advanced degree in business, law or health sciences may be substituted for equivalent work experience.
    • Demonstrated negotiation and legal agreement drafting skills.
    • Demonstrated license portfolio and contract management.
    • Sense of urgency to ensure that deals remain on track to successfully close negotiations.
    • Experience with Inteum or other intellectual property/licensing portfolio tracking databases.
    • Strong business acumen and critical thinking abilities.
