REMOTE BASED, FULLY ONLINE POSITION. Capella University seeks to hire Part-Time Faculty in the School of Public Service Leaderships' Master of Social Work program. Our faculty are responsible for meeting the expectations and requirements of the University while establishing and maintaining effective relationships with learners and colleagues. Faculty ensure that learners receive quality educational experiences consistent with stated course outcomes as well as accreditation standards. Capella values the capabilities and talents of its faculty and expects continued learning and development through practice in the discipline and scholarly activities which can inform teaching.
Essential Duties
Teach up to two (online) courses four times a year
Demonstrate knowledge of adult learning theory and practices
Build an online community conducive to the spirit of learning and continuous improvement in a positive, learner-focused environment
Ability to Teach Graduate level Advanced Generalist Practice Courses, Graduate Level Clinical Courses, Practicum/Internship Education courses and serving as a Practicum/Internship Faculty Liaison base on program needs.
Ability to teach across the MSW curriculum, based on practice and teaching expertise
Make a positive impact on learner retention and persistence
Knowledge of Council on Social Work Education EPAS
Attending quarterly department meetings
Establish a collegial relationship with Site Supervisors and host virtualsites
Communicate effectively in written and oral form
Part-Time Faculty engage in a continuous relationship with Capella, and we are committed to providing work assignments on an ongoing quarterly basis, resulting on average of 2 courses each term (approximately 8 credits of work).
Only part-time faculty members may participate in Mentoring or Committee Work assignments or any other work assignment that may span four or more quarters. All faculty candidates will be required to complete an unpaid Faculty Development course as a pre-requisite for employment. This is an essential part of the selection process for both the faculty member and Capella
Job Skills
Experience teaching in higher education teaching online.
Membership/affiliation in an educational leadership organization on a national, regional, and/or local level.
Demonstrated commitment to service and practice in educational leadership
Experience with leadership through team engagement
Evidence of supporting learner success and a commitment to quality teaching outcomes.
Ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.
Experience presenting at professional conferences on a national and/or local level
Experience with scholarly writing and use of APA (6th edition) format.

Managing instructional load plus some administrative responsibilities

Willingness to teach courses and residencies for which they have not yet taught but are consistent with faculty member expertise
Acts under general guidance and collegial consultation regarding development of course content and providing constructive input regarding university practices
Faculty will be assessed based upon their demonstration of personal drive to accomplish goals and consistently meet expectations; criteria includes the following (depending upon the type of activities assigned).
Evidence of high-quality learner interactions as demonstrated through:
Adhering to course room setup procedures and establishes rapport with learners
Facilitating course discussions ensuring active participation among learners creating entries at least 3-6 days per week
Responding to learner inquiries within 24-48 hours
Assessing learner assignments and engagement in a timely manner consistent with university and program requirements
Reporting at-risk learners to appropriate school staff and following case management protocols
End of course evaluations appropriately meet qualitative standards:
Quality of teaching, mentoring (if required), residency involvement
Contributions to the specialization/school or university
Demonstrates active interest in one's performance and is responsive to feedback
Disciplinary expertise as relevant to Capella needs
Ability to manage a breadth and depth of work activities and responsibilities:

Work Experience
Two years of practitioner and/or clinical experience (in order to be eligible to teach the practice courses)
Online Teaching experience
Practicum/Internship Education experience (teaching, liaison, or supervision), preferred
Use of technology to conduct live class sessions with learners and one on one learner advising, as needed .
Experience teaching in higher education. Online experience is preferred.
Experience with leadership through team engagement.
Evidence of supporting learner success and a commitment to quality teaching outcomes.
Experience presenting at professional conferences on a national and/or local level.

Education
MSW required from a Council on Social Work Education accredited program
Doctorate degree required from an accredited institution in Social Work or related area- to include Human Services, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology or Education
Certificates, licenses and registrations
Must hold a graduate level social work license in good standing and obtain Minnesota state social work licensure at the graduate level upon hire, including having passed the Association of Social Work Boards exam
