Job Description
  • Job Summary
    • Maintains the Oncology Registry including data collection and retrieval utilizing a computerized tumor registry system. Organizes and maintains computerized data base to meet standards of the Commission on Cancer, Medical Staff and Administration. Prepares data from the registry for presentation at Tumor Board meetings. Submits data quarterly to the Maryland Central Tumor Registry.

      • Associates degree in Health Information or Medical Records.
      • Possesses and maintains Tumor Registrar Certification. (CTR)
      • Experience as a in a hospital, free standing cancer registry or equivalent experience related to oncology data collection.

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Conduct annual site specific study as decided by cancer committee. Conduct quality control activities of registry data. Conducts annual follow up activities in accordance to ACoS/CoC standards.
    • Coordinates and staff monthly Tumor Board conferences, coordinates quarterly Cancer Committee meeting. Reports cancer registry activities at this time.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of ICD-9-CM and ICD-0-CM coding, FORDS manual, collaborative staging. Updates policy and procedure manual for the registry up to current standards as set forth by the ACoS/CoC. Determines eligibility of patients for inclusion in the oncology registry in accordance with the ACoS/CoC and Maryland Cancer Registry current standards.
    • Maintains follow-up and monitors the oncologic patient database by reviewing the medical charts to determine if patient has been readmitted. Corresponds, visits and/or telephones physician, patient and/or other institutions to obtain required information. Monitor physician staging per AJCC.
    • Meet certification requirements every two years in accordance with the National Cancer Registrar’s Association (NCRA).
    • Participates in quality management studies conducted by the Cancer Committee in conjunction with the Performance Improvement department.
    • Responds to routine requests for patient oncologic data from other registries and/or St. Mary’s Hospital staff. Assist in the preparation of statistical reports, as requested by physicians and/or administrative staff. Submits data to the Maryland Cancer Registry (MCR) quarterly and the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) according to the "called for" data.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
