Job Description
Job Title: Program Associate     
Team: Early Childhood Education                             
                                                                           
Organization
The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. CCSSO seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
 
Summary
The Program Associate, Early Childhood Education, will report to the Program Director, Early Childhood education and will work with the Early Childhood Education and the College and Career-Ready Standards (ICCS) team and other staff at the Council to support states as they implement high quality early childhood education opportunities for children, Birth to grade three, including early learning programs, early educator workforce, family and community engagement, and alignment of early learning standards and programs with elementary ICC standards in terms of instruction and intervention. Specific responsibilities include:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
 
  • Manage the meeting registration process for CCSSO networks. This includes inputting participant data in contact management system, drafting agendas, preparing meeting materials, coordinating travel, ordering and setting up/tearing down of catering, booking meeting rooms, and providing meeting follow-up (formatting documents, assembling folders, creating table tents, etc.).
  • Process expense reimbursements for meeting participants.
  • Take high-level notes during meetings, conference calls, and webinars; develop meeting summaries when needed.
  • Master the technical side of hosting webinars and virtual meetings, support meetings, conference calls, and webinars.
  • Collect and track data, develop a system to monitor progress in states, and coordinate an Early Learning Networked Improvement Community internally and externally.
  • Traveling to support CCSSO’s direct work with state agencies on Early Childhood Education and CCR standards. Note that this position will require approximately 20% travel.
Education and/or Experience              
 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred plus a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience. Five (5) years’ work experience preferred.
  • Energetic, motivated, ability to work in a team environment while demonstrating the ability to solve problems independently.
  • Experience with collecting, analyzing and organizing data or setting up data and progress monitoring systems.
  • Ability to set priorities for use of one’s time, work under pressure, and adjust tasks appropriately to meet deliverables and project timelines; political acumen and evidence of strategic thinking capability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional proofreading/editing skills with strong attention to details.
  • Comfort working in a constantly changing, highly dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with highly developed organizational skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
Technical Skills
 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and have created or used charts, spreadsheets, and databases. Successful incumbents are proficient at using WebEx, Outlook, and Intranet/Internet tools.
