The Communication Technician is responsible for planning, layout and complete installation of new commerical and retrofit commerical communications equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • splicing, testing, terminating and trouble-shooting copper cable;
  • terminating and testing fiber optics;
  • grounding and bonding;
  • prompt and professional responses to customers’ requests; effectively resolving customers’ concerns;
  • Reading plans and specifications.

Work may include supervising a team of 1-3 technicians, working independently or working under the direct supervision of a Communications technician. Full working knowledge of a pentascanner; the ability to work with different types of connectors, terminations and pin configurations; knowledge of color codes; and familiarity with TIA and EIA standards and section 800 of the NEC is a plus. Communications technicians may also be required to assist electrical installations as needed.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED or the equivalent.
  • Must provide evidence of 2- 5 years experience in the communications industry.
  • BICSI Installer certification (or equivalent training and experience) required. Experience in the electrical industry is a plus.
  • Must have your own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to communicate in basic English (for safety reasons).
  • Must have a valid work permit.
  • Must pass a substance abuse test and remain free of substance abuse.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
