Position Description

Compass, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Silver Spring, MD dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities in the community. We are seeking a qualified Benefit and Financial Coordinator with related experience to coordinate the benefits (SSI, SSA, medical assistance, food stamps) and finances of the individuals supported by Compass, Inc. The position is supervised by the Director of Finance and works closely with the Finance Department and with Residential staff in establishing program fees, reviewing individuals’ accounts and earned income and ensuring that individuals maintain and obtain benefits (Medical Assistance, Social Security, food stamps.) Qualified applicants must possess strong computer skills and be able to maintain and produce database spreadsheets utilizing MS Excel. Strong case management skills also required for necesary follow up in coordination of benefits for a large caseload of individuals with disabilities. All activities support the strategic goals and objectives of Compass, Inc. and ensure the sound integrity of the agency’s finances.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and case worker skills in coordinating, obtaining and maintaining benefits (Medical Assistance, Social Security, food stamps)
  • Demonstrated administrative skills in organizing case files and ensuring ongoing follow up as needed
  • Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel.
  • A high level of commitment to take initiative and maintain a positive “can do” attitude
  • A high level of personal accountability, integrity and ethical standards
  • Effective ability to work well under pressure

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in a related field (Administration/Human Services/Accounting.)
  • Minimum of three years experience in human services or case management.
  • Direct experience in coordinating, obtaining, and maintaining benefits (Medical Assistance, Social Security, food stamps) preferred.
