MDA is seeking an experienced Software Engineer / Web Developer for its Rockville HQ

The Software Engineer/Web Developer will support product development activities for the Geospatial Solutions Division. The position is responsible for developing web applications to support internal and external customer needs. The Senior Software Engineer reports to the Vice President, Information Technology and works directly with internal and external customers. This position requires a highly-motivated individual with a willingness to learn who can work in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Develop front-end web application to facilitate the selection and purchase of imagery data sets
• Provide support to internal customer for Web applications needs
• Create a fully-functional e-commerce website to propel MDA Federal to become the #1 imagery provider for direct and re-sales leveraging the experience of other developers and GIS personnel
• Utilize the internet to expose image and GIS services to clients
• Experience working with GIS datasets in an ESRI environment
• Use .NET programming to design and implement a front-end, interactive client-facing web application that will enable users to select AOI(s)
• Develop information collection/harvesting capability from other data vendors and provide consolidated view to clients
• Support web and other development activities at various client locations in the Washington, DC metro area
• Provide programming support for Research and Development activities including image serving and web applications development
• Provide mentoring support for junior staff developers

Required Qualifications

• Knowledge of satellite imagery, weather, and GIS datasets
• Experience programming in a .NET (C# or VB) environment
• Solid understanding of HTML
• Basic to moderate understanding of a Relation Database Management System such as MySQL, SQL Server or Postgres
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of staff and clients
• Ability to create macros and stand-alone programs for data input and basic processing
• Ability to create and perform real-time query to other data vendor databases, based on client selection via the web interface
• Ability to leverage creative thinking and innovative ideas to turn marketing ideas into working prototypes and products
• Ability to work well independently and within a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet client-driven deadlines
• Ability to use time efficiently to prioritize, manage competing demands and plan work activities to meet client-driven deadlines
• Excellent work ethic

Desired Qualifications

• Experience Using ESRI products including: ArcGIS Server, ArcInfo and ArcSDE
• Basic to Moderate understanding of CSS and image manipulation programs such as Photoshop Knowledge or experience developing using AJAX and/or PHP
