Position Description
This full-time, tenure track faculty position is responsible for teaching a full range of introductory sociology courses in a multidisciplinary Behavioral and Social Sciences/Business Division. Courses taught directly relate to the following programs within the Division—Administration of Justice, Human Services, Paralegal Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology—as well as programs outside the Division for general education requirements. These programs include career and transfer programs. The successful candidate will have strong credentials to develop an HCC credit course in Race and Ethnic Relations.
Education and Experience – Master’s degree in sociology or a master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution with at least 18 graduate credits in sociology and at least 12 undergraduate credits in sociology. Also required is a minimum of three to five years of college-level teaching experience or be qualified to teach Principles of Sociology, Social Problems, Minority Groups/Relations, Marriage and Family Relations and related courses in Criminal Justice. Must be willing to work with the Administration of Justice program coordinator; have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and cultural competence through the use of multicultural pedagogy; responsible for teaching a broad range of courses in sociology and allied fields; preference will be given to candidates with documented successful college teaching experience or have the background to teach an introductory course in criminal justice and corrections.
Skills and Abilities - Experience in the use of technology in teaching for classroom and distance learning; experience communicating with a diverse student population both in and outside the classroom; writing skills for course development and assessment a plus
