Exciting Opportunity with MDA Federal in our Weather Division

We are seeking a Chief Scientist - Applied Weather that will be responsible for oversight and development of new techniques for forecasting, with an emphasis on worldwide wind, temperature and rainfall forecasting. This is a "hands-on" programming position; candidate must have extensive programming capabilities and manipulation experience with WRF.

Essential Job Functions

• Develop and maintain wind forecasting capabilities using WRF or a similar model.
• Develop techniques to improve rainfall and temperature forecasts.
• Study and improve long range forecasting capabilities.
• Design and create new weather product offerings.
• Respond promptly to customer and staff needs including requests for service and assistance
• Work to continually improve operational efficiencies, processes, products and services

Required Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of staff and clients
• M.S. or PH. D. from four-year college or university in Meteorology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of WRF or similar models
• Experience in wind forecasting.
• Experience with long-range forecasting.
• Ability to program in Perl and C-shell.
• Ability to leverage creative thinking and innovative ideas to meet client needs and develop new products
• Ability to exhibit balanced emotions, strong interpersonal skills and a professional appearance and demeanor at all times while managing competing demands
• Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities and contribute to building a positive team spirit
• Ability to spend up to 10% of time on business travel
• Ability to demonstrate group presentation skills including public speaking
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Eligibility for U.S Security Clearance is required.
