Senior Analyst, Electricity Supply
Department: Electricity Operations
Location: Baltimore, MD
Reports To: Director, Electricity Supply
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position will be responsible for backing up MXenergy’s electricity supply procurement and day to day management of the Company’s supply electricity portfolio along with data analysis on the supply portfolio.
Responsibilities
• Back-up Director, Electricity Supply with managing electricity supply.
• Perform daily balancing of ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) and other portfolios as deemed necessary.
• Perform supply analysis that support Electricity Operations with guidance from Manager, Power Analytics.
• Analyze and react to current market conditions through bidding and use of hedging strategies to minimize risk and maximize retail marketing opportunities.
• Assist other areas of MX to ensure the proper reporting of power purchases and hedges.
• Support existing ISO (Independent System Operator) market analysis (NYISO, ISO-NE and ERCOT) along with new markets (PJM, MISO, etc).
• Perform scheduling of power supply and load bids in ISO markets periodically to support as a back-up.
• Track and receive quotes on the forward markets for capacity, energy, spreads/basis and heat rates.
• Develop and conduct analyses to identify performance improvements: accuracy of power purchases; cost analyses; profit margins; and other performance indicators.
• Conduct wholesale power market research and gather competitive intelligence on the underlying supply and demand forces that impact the power markets.
• Update daily wholesale electric curves and distribute to use by other MX groups.
• Develop a general understanding of the rules and costs that a retail electric load serving entity will incur serving retail customers.
• EEI (Edison Electric Institute) and ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association) contract negotiation, compliance, and administration.
• Develop and foster supplier relationships.
• Perform all job functions within the established internal controls framework for the area, including the key controls identified for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Ensure that any known internal control problems/issues/concerns are identified and communicated on a timely basis to immediate supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Minimum 5-10 years overall industry experience with 2-3 years experience in a similar job function
• Experience with electricity supply, wholesale electric supply concepts and techniques, capacity acquisition, electric operations and accounting management and forecasting systems, trading, NYISO, NE ISO, PJM and ERCOT is desired.
• Experience with financial derivative pricing (e.g., option pricing, swaps, caps and collars) and risk management techniques
Skills
• Knowledge of Electric Supply chain practices
• Strong Excel skills, including macros, Access and Excel VBA coding skills would be a plus.
• Strong analytical skills; self-starter
• Ability to adapt in rapidly changing environment
• Excellent oral and written communications skills

Education Requirements
Bachelors degree in a quantitative field such as finance, engineering, mathematics, or economics.
