Job Description:

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a highly qualified individual to direct and manage WWF’s contribution to the Ecosystems and Livelihoods Adaptation Network (ELAN). ELAN is a partnership between WWF and The World Conservation Union that focuses on integration of ecosystems and livelihoods adaptation. It aims to build capacity, accelerate application of existing knowledge, create new knowledge and additional adaptation options, and inform national, regional, and international bodies about adaptation needs and solutions.
The Director, ELAN will direct and manage the ELAN Secretariat jointly with IUCN, in collaboration with other WWF staff. He/she will work closely with IUCN, other potential future ELAN partners, WWF National organizations, other conservation and development groups and other organizations/agencies to develop and strengthen the ELAN partnership and roll out activities. The incumbent will interact and negotiate with other WWF Network Organizations and our external partners, including other conservation groups, development organizations, leading researchers, and officials from governments and international organizations. She/he will help to plan and lead meetings of advisory and governance groups, and be a part of the team that facilitates and strengthens adaptation communities of practice, promotes access to climate science for adaptation practitioners, facilitates sharing of lessons and tools, and promotes provision of technical support and training to field programs on impact, adaptation and vulnerability assessments, options for adaptation, and implementing adaptation projects.
A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in social or natural sciences is preferred. BA required. 10 years experience in managing large conservation and/or development programs or partnerships is also required; adaptation experience highly desirable. Background working with Government or Intergovernmental Agencies (e.g., USAID, GEF) is a plus. It is essential that the incumbent have extensive experience in cross-disciplinary, multi-organization, and international cooperation in project management and implementation. Candidate should also have great diplomatic and interpersonal skills, good vision as well as attention to detail, and a proven track record in fundraising and managing donor relations.
