Position Description


The Senior Director, Compensation is responsible for consulting with the business and leading a team in the design and development of compensation programs that motivate and retain top talent and ultimately drive business performance for Capital One’s Bank and Card businesses (~25,000 employees across the US, Canada and the UK).

Job Description:
· Lead team to drive compensation program design and development for rapidly expanding banking franchise and national lending business
· Define annual compensation agenda working with senior business leaders to understand overall business drivers and translate these into tightly aligned pay programs comprising
· Provide leadership of a team of compensation consultants and analysts to provide ongoing compensation solutions to business leaders ensuring that salary structures, incentive and long-term compensation plans are aligned with the Company’s overall and HR strategies, and provide a strong linkage between pay and performance
· Manage programs involving support for corporate pay platforms and line of business specific pay - establishing metrics and monitoring program effectiveness
· Work with the business and finance to develop annual line of business incentive plans, including initiatives to support the compensation forecasting and budgeting processes
· Collaborate across teams in Human Resources to ensure effective and compliant delivery of pay programs

Basic Qualifications:
· Bachelors degree
· 8 years experience of progressive compensation design and program management; experience managing the work of and leading a team of compensation professionals

Preferred Qualifications:
· Masters Degree
· 10+ years experience of progressive compensation design and program management; experience managing the work of and leading a team of compensation professionals
· Specific experience in developing compensation programs in a Banking environment and knowledge of production incentive plans
· Understanding of business economics and ability to translate into programs that drive desired behaviors
· Superior technical knowledge of compensation programs and practices; experience in evaluating competitive landscape, market and regulatory trends affecting reward practices
· Exceptional consultative, analytical, and problem solving skills
· Demonstrated collaboration skills both inside and outside of HR, engaging stakeholders to achieve a common vision
· Proven ability to establish rapport at all levels and effectively influence decisions at the highest level.
· Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and competing priorities
· Broad integrative thinker with ability to drive results
· CCP designation a plus
