Preferred Skills: Must have licensures in Maryland and Washington DC.
Purpose: To provide direct care to surgical patients under the supervision of a physician/ surgeon.
This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.
Accountabilities: 1. Assist Surgeon during surgical procedure by carrying out surgical functions as directed by the surgeon in order to ensure optimal results to the patient. 2. Provide comprehensive evaluation, management, and care of pre and post operative patients. Develop comprehensive plan of care and review with supervising physician. 3. Participate in patient education specific to surgical procedures and post-operative care. 4. Determine, order, interpret and document appropriate tests, treatments and drug prescriptions. 5. Assist in surgical rounds at hospital. 6. Collaborate with the physician and other clinical staff members to maintain continuity of care. 7. Refer patients to supervising physician or, with physician agreement, to other health/ professionals as appropriate. 8. Participate in developing, reviewing and revising medical / surgical protocols. 9. Participate in training of staff and students as necessary or indicated. 10. Integrates the principles of patient safety and quality care into daily practice. 11. Perform other related duties as directed.
Minimum Requirement - Relevant Years of Experience: . Two years of assisting in surgical specialty experience is preferred; experience preferred in specialty to which assigned.
Minimum Requirement - Education and/or Classes: . Graduation from an accredited PA program. . Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum Requirement - License, Certification and/or Designation: . Board Certification from NCCPA - renewed every 6 years . State licensure valid in jurisdiction where assigned . DEA number required if practice agreement authorized prescribing of controlled substances . Written delegation agreement with supervising physician on file with Kaiser Permanente Physician Professional Quality Assurance Office (PPQA) and the appropriate state Board of Medicine . Current CPR certification is required from the American Heart Association . National Provider Identification (NPI) required
Other requirements: . The practitioner will be assigned to a specific location every day depending on surgical cases (ie. at hospitals and ASC) and clinic need which will be determined by the Area Service Chief. . Location assignments will be made monthly whenever possible, according to access needs; assignment sites may be changed on short notice.
