ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST IV (8436) SALARY: $45,399-$72,857 (Effective September 23, 2009)
DESCRIPTION: The position involves advanced professional work as a team leader in the environmental sciences and resource management protection. The employee may be responsible for conducting major, complex, and/or innovative projects in researching, analyzing, and evaluating the environmental or socio-economic impact of projects, and making recommendations to minimize and mitigate the environmental impact. Job duties include being responsible for leading multi-disciplined teams on major, complex, and politically sensitive environmental studies and serving as technical expert in a particular area of environmental studies. The employee may also function as a team leader in programs designed to prevent, identify, and mitigate impacts to the environment related to the operation and maintenance of transportation systems and facilities, and to achieve, maintain, and document compliance with all environmental laws and regulations applicable to the multi-media operations of those systems and facilities. Some positions may involve managing environmental consultants, reviewing consultant work product, and approving requests for payment. A strong working knowledge of State of Maryland regulations and experience with the development and implementation of environmental programs is desired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences, earth science, physical science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy, forestry, horticultural or related sciences, geography, environmental planning, civil engineering, sociology, economics, planning, anthropology, architectural history or related fields such as ecology, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering.
EXPERIENCE: Six years experience in environmental analysis to include the development of plans, specifications, estimates and design OR Six years experience in environmental management to include the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management, or multi-media operations.
NOTE AND LICENSES: 1. Possession of a Master's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 2. Possession of a Doctorate's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for two years of the required experience. 3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
