Position Description
• Providing leadership in the design and development of a curricular framework for secondary Language Arts, Reading, English, and Written Language aligned with the Maryland Content Standards and the Maryland Assessment Program.
• Ensuring the alignment of the BCPS curriculum to the Maryland Content Standards and the Maryland Assessment Program.
• Identifying research-based strategies to support secondary instruction in Language Arts, Reading, English, and Written Language.
• Providing leadership in the strengthening of the secondary curriculum and instructional program.
• Supporting school in providing a rigorous instructional program for students receiving special education services.
• Collaborating with all curricular areas to provide for seamless integration of language arts with other K-12 content areas.
• Assisting in the development of short-cycle and benchmark assessments that are integrated and aligned to the Maryland Content Standards and the Maryland Assessment Program.
• Identifying and recommending prevention, acceleration, and enrichment opportunities for secondary Language Arts, Reading, English, and Written Language programs.
• Collaborating with the Office of Purchasing in evaluating and identifying approved textbooks, instructional materials, and software for secondary schools in Language Arts, Reading, English, and Written Language.
• Supporting secondary school chairpersons, administrators, and teachers in the implementation of the curriculum.
• Collaborating and coordinating with the Department of Professional Development for the delivery of professional development for the middle and high school programs.
• Providing leadership in the development of curricular and instructional initiatives that support the system-wide goals in the Blueprint for Progress in the areas of secondary Language Arts, Reading, English, and Written Language.
• Monitoring the role of the Office of Secondary English and Reading in contributing to the systemwide goals as defined in the Blueprint for Progress.
• Planning, budgeting, controlling, and assessing the use of Office of Secondary English and Reading budget and grant funds.
• Evaluating the performance and professional growth of personnel in the Office of Secondary English and Reading.
• Performing additional duties assigned by the Director of Language Arts, PK to grade 12.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a Master’s degree in a field directly related to the assignment.
• Possession of or eligibility for Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with an Administrative I endorsement preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of leadership/management experience in areas directly related to the above responsibilities with progressively responsible leadership.
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching or related experience preferred.
• Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstration of strong leadership, management and human relations skills.
• Possession of technology competency (e.g., database internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications); skill and experience in data analysis and application.
$80,245 - $116,832
This position is eligible for the Baltimore County Employees’ Retirement system.
