Community Outreach to Veterans

Mission Statement: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans. Vision: To provide veterans the world-class benefits and services they have earned - and to do so by adhering to the highest standards of compassion, commitment, excellence, professionalism, integrity, accountability, and stewardship.

Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services are also available for their family members for military related issues. Veterans have earned these benefits through their service and all are provided at no cost to the veteran or family. The Department of Veterans Affairs Vet Center program operates a system of 232 community based counseling centers. The Vet Centers are staffed by small multi-disciplinary teams of dedicated providers, many of which are combat veterans themselves.

America Works lifts people out of poverty using its unique brand of intensive, personalized employment services. Called "a company with a conscience," it was founded in 1984 by social activist and entrepreneur Peter Cove, a Boston native who wanted to put his ideals about poverty and the American dream into practice.

The Circle of Friends for American Veterans is fighting back by actively supporting programs that help create jobs for motivated veterans who want to work.

Anne Arundel One-Stop Career Centers provide high quality, innovative workforce solutions for Anne Arundel County residents, free of charge. The Anne Arundel One-Stop Career Center is a partner in the Maryland Workforce Exchange System. The Anne Arundel One-Stop Career Centers are a collaborative effort of Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) and the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation’s Division of Workforce Development), and state and local agencies to create services that help people and businesses connect.

The Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) was created by the Army to provide world-class transition and job assistance services to the Soldiers and civilian employees and their family members who have selflessly served their nation. The program is mandated by Congress and embedded in Army and DoD policy.

To preserve and strengthen a spirit of fellowship among blinded veterans so that they may give mutual aid and assistance to one another. To maintain and extend the institution of American freedom and encourage loyalty to the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the states in which they reside.

Department of Employment Services provides job seekers with a number of employment opportunities. Each DC Works! center provides career counseling, career planning, resume assistance, direct job placement, classroom and on-the-job training, access to America's Job Bank (both online and via telephone), information about local and national labor markets, unemployment compensation and much more.

The Department of Employment Services, the District's Labor and Workforce Development Agency, has relocated its headquarters. We are now located at 4058 Minnesota Avenue, NE, immediately adjacent to the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station on the Orange Line.
