Job Summary

Work closely with business analysts and other technical resources to develop and enhance systems and programs to improve processes and service delivery. Design, develop, document, test, implement and maintain application programs, systems and interfaces. Possess expert knowledge and competence in core technologies used by the University. Actively mentors intermediate and junior developers.

This is a fully remote position. The incumbent must reside and work in the states of Georgia or South Carolina.

Responsibilities
  • Research, design, implement, test, troubleshoot and maintain applications (including web and mobile), systems, programs, and interfaces
  • Identify areas for modification/enhancement in existing applications and subsequently develop these modifications
  • Write and maintain software code, queries, reports, and programs applications using current tools and languages
  • Apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate, verify, communicate, and resolve systems/software application issues
  • Provide consultation to technical resources regarding upgrades, appropriate usage, and the technical environment; monitor version requirements and organize upgrades; Consult with business analysts, and if appropriate functional users, to analyze requirements, recommend technical design and specifications, and clarify work requests and implementation plans
  • Develop technical specifications after reviewing provided functional specifications and analyzing user application programming requests
  • Prepare technical, operational, and user related documentation, provide technical support and training to functional users
  • May be assigned as the technical expert for a specific technology or software system like workflow, document imaging, and management, integration services, data warehouse, Student Information System (Banner), or job scheduling
  • Understand high-level architectural design and patterns

KNOWLEDGE
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated experience using common web development languages and frameworks such Python/Django/Flask
  • Git or other distributed version control systems
  • Knowledge of database design and associated software/programming languages
  • Knowledge of Network Administration: Novell, TCP/IP, file sharing and FT
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Divisional application servers and information systems
  • Knowledgeable about various hardware and software systems, integrated systems, and event driven programs

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Experience working with web, application and database servers, such as Apache, Nginx, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle
  • Experience integrating open source and commercial systems using APIs and REST web services
  • Proven agility and experience with operating systems for PC and Mac
  • Experience with managing and maintaining virtual servers on VMware vCenter Infrastructure and Public IaaS
  • Creative in problem-solving
