Job Summary:
The Director of Student Services reports to the Academic Associate Dean and is a member of the Freeman College Office of Student Services. The Director represents the Academic Associate Dean, the Office of Student Services, and the Freeman College with students, parents and appropriate University personnel and offices. The Director is responsible for working with and supporting the academic needs for all class years of Freeman students, including transfer and other students.

Job Duties:

JOB DUTIES:

1. Academic Advising (60%)

Direct communication with students and faculty to ensure understanding of academic studies, curriculum requirements, progress toward degree completion, and how minors can supplement students' education. Work with students who are demonstrating academic struggles: those referred by faculty members (including via Beacon) and those seeking assistance. Manage related student, parent and faculty communication and concerns. Answer questions and interpret policies for students and faculty concerning requirements, degree, major and minor options, exceptions and withdrawing from a course or taking a leave of absence. Make effective and timely referrals to Academic Associate Dean and other support offices and groups.

Lead program support for academic advising. Serve on the Academic Advising Committee. Oversee advising-related pieces of orientation, particularly at the time of initial entry for all incoming students, transfer students, students with special needs and disabilities, members of minority groups and international students, and initiate routine academic progress checks. Assist the Academic Associate Dean in developing, managing and implementing academic support programs for all management students.

Retention efforts: Be aware of Higher Education standards for retention as well as Bucknell standards; serve as the in-house expert on current retention statistics and initiatives. Make recommendations to the Academic Associate Dean on strategies to advance retention goals, including taking a leadership role in student retention strategies.

2. Freeman Fellow Program (15%)

Oversee the Freeman Fellow Peer Mentorship Program which includes the recruitment, ongoing leadership training and supervision of Freeman Fellows. Develop and maintain robust training, reference and promotional materials.

3. Co-teach MGMT 100 (15%)

Develop curriculum, co-develop standards for classroom and professional etiquette and protocols, and coordinate rich presentations on curricular options including majors and minors offered within the Freeman College.

4. Additional responsibilities (10%)
  • Serve on appropriate college and University committees and advisory boards as time and experience permit
  • Review major change requests
  • Assist the Academic Associate Dean and Department Chairs with the declaration of major process
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the course registration process and liaise with departments regarding course registration and waitlists
  • Liaise with L&IT on academic online processes
  • Liaise with Communications on information relative to incoming first-year student class
  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Associate Dean


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (Counseling, Business Administration, Education, etc.)
  • Five to seven years of experience providing direct academic support to students and knowledge of the entire student lifecycle
  • Knowledge of curricular issues in higher education, ability to counsel students effectively and to work with others in the institution, and ability to reach principled, equitable decisions with a high level of credibility and confidentiality
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with internal and external constituents
  • Ability to craft clear and engaging content
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and function autonomously in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong work ethic and high level of flexibility, initiative, creativity, and ability to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office computer systems, experience with student databases and social media platforms, and receptive to learning new technology


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with advanced research or assessment methods and a demonstrated ability to analyze data and summarize findings
  • Experience in academic advising and case management


Physical Demands:
  • Able to move up to 25 lbs
  • Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; remain at a computer and use a mouse/keyboard for long periods
  • Able to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery such as copiers and printers
  • Able to work in an environment with multiple competing deadlines and frequent interruptions

59,760.00-74,700.00

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
