Title: Cost Accountant

Salary:$90-125k(DOE) + Bonus

Job Description:
Reporting to the Controller the Cost Accountant is responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting activities relating to Inventory for the company and shall assist in additional responsibilities as back up to the Controller/CFO. Partnering with the quality, research and development, and Operations teams, the Staff Accountant will support overall food safety and quality ensuring Safe & Quality Products.

The Cost Accountant will perform duties in accordance with industry specific regulations, Global Food Safety Initiative Standards, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Certification, Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Standards, performance expectations as well as Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead, to ensure accuracy and identify cost drivers.
  • Conduct regular cost variance analysis to compare actual costs with budgeted or standard costs.
  • Investigate and explain variances to management, highlighting areas for improvement or corrective action.
  • Monitor inventory levels and valuation, reconciling discrepancies and ensuring accuracy in inventory records.
  • Assist in developing inventory policies and procedures to optimize inventory turnover while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Collaborate with production and procurement teams to forecast inventory needs and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Calculate and maintain standard costs for manufactured products, incorporating material costs, labor expenses, and overhead allocations. Provide support for pricing decisions by accurately estimating the cost of new products or changes to existing products.
  • Analyze the profitability of products or product lines, identifying opportunities to enhance margins.
  • Prepare and present periodic financial reports related to manufacturing costs, including variance analysis and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights into cost trends and potential impacts on profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement within the manufacturing operations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement cost-saving initiatives, such as improving efficiency, reducing waste, or optimizing resource utilization.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend enhancements to costing methodologies and systems.
  • Performs monthly accounting close procedures such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Completes company and departmental budget to actual comparisons and analyzes key variances to plan.
  • Performs fixed asset accounting and reporting, including maintaining fixed asset schedules and calculating depreciation, asset addition and disposal.
  • Assists in the preparation of audit schedules for annual external audit and liaises with external auditors.
  • Monitors and updates processes as needed to align with the growth of the business.
  • Applies appropriate accounting procedures and maintains effective internal controls.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and or Finance from an accredited university.
  • 4+ years in a Cost Accountant and role.
  • Experience working in ERP systems and specifically accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger modules.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments preferred.
