Job Description

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. This job description is not a "contract" between the employee and the Authority. The job duties and essential functions may be changed at the discretion of the CEO/General Manager.

SUMMARY:

The Field Technician performs various field duties in support of Customer Services. These duties include, but are not limited to, enforcement of delinquent accounts, performing various types of services on meters from 5/8-inch up to 2" in size, inspection of various meter installations, reading of non-transmitting meters, verifying account information as it pertains to meter size, type, location and property serviced and various other meter related duties as assigned by the Foreman.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Verifies customer information as it relates to meter reads, meter location, meter type, meter size, service address and occupancy.
  • Performs interior audits, meter leak inspections and site inspections to ensure that installation conforms to DC Water specifications to include frame and cover placements are at grade.
  • Performs service termination and restoration on meters from 5/8-inch up to two inches in size.
  • Reports and documents any deficiencies at meter installations to ensure that installation adheres to DC Water specifications and standards.
  • Installs meters and meter transmitting units (MTU) from 5/8-inch up to two inches in size.
  • Retrofits existing amr compatible meters with mtus.
  • Programs and troubleshoots non-responding MTUs to ensure transmission of meter reads.
  • Responds to radio dispatched requests for service and communicates back to dispatch final disposition of work assignment.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment on vehicle and follows appropriate reconciliation procedure.
  • Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with customers and co-workers in the department and throughout the Authority.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of utility field experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.
  • Knowledge of basic data entry and laptops/computers.
  • Skill in using basic tools for wires splicing and stripping and various type and size wrenches.
  • Skill in using Bury Splice Kits,UR connectors, curb cock keys, wheelbarrow keys, and lazy man keys, a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to read maps and navigate accordingly.
