The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Director of Graduate Advisement (Student Services Advisor II) to join our collaborative team. Reporting to the Director of Graduate Advisement, the Assistant Director will provide academic advisement for a caseload of more than 200 master's students while leading departmental initiatives and programs relating to career development and international student support.

Ideal candidatesfor this position will havea passion for working with, and providing targeted student programming for, a diverse population of students as well as demonstrated experienceand successsupporting faculty and collaborating with campus colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic advisement for a caseload of more than 200 master's students enrolled at USC Annenberg.
  • Maintain student records, monitor student academic progress, and coordinate registration and enrollment activities.
  • Disseminate information to students utilizing novel and innovative, user-friendly approaches.
  • Work closely with faculty directors of Annenberg's graduate degree programs on advisement and registration planning; student data collection, management, reporting, and analysis; and to occasionally resolve complex student issues.
  • Develop and lead programs that support student success, including unique, curated programming for international master's students and programming relating to career development and alumni engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with Annenberg's Career Development and Industry Relations teams on new initiatives and programming.
  • Serve as a liaison to USC's Office of International Office of International Services and maintain currency on policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to international students.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in academic advisement or other student-facing support role.
  • Knowledge of USC programs and services and experience with USC database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member. Demonstrates a capacity for strategic thinking, problem-solving, sound judgment, effective and constructive communication, initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • Master's degree preferred in counseling, higher education administration, or a related field.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), hybrid, non-exempt (hourly) staff position.

  • The hourly range for this position is $34.10 - $34.87.
