Job Summary

The Clinical Informatics Specialist, in collaboration with the Digital Services Team, in support of all hospital and physicians practice clinical areas, works in the capacity as clinical liaison between practicing clinicians and information technology staff. Strives to understand clinical and departmental operational processes and incorporates this knowledge to execute best practices in both the clinical and information technology disciplines.

Essential Functions

  • Works collaboratively with the interprofessional team including Information Services, clinicians, HIM, and other informatics professionals to implement all aspects of clinical electronic medical record and other clinical applications. Communicates, collaborates and acts as a team player with others in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services. Acts as a mentor related to open/direct communication and fosters team building.
  • Functions as the primary liaison between information technology staff and clinicians and medical staff to translate operational process needs into workable technology solutions. Creatively solves clinical challenges to meet the needs of technology requirements.
  • Assumes accountability for the assessment of educational needs related to clinical information systems and develops, implements, evaluates and revises educational programs, orientation, curriculum and materials necessary to implement the electronic medical record and ongoing upgrades and technology enhancements in collaboration with educator colleagues.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary and cross departmental initiatives related to the clinical applications. Recommends and implements system solutions.
  • Supports day-to-day usage of clinical applications and its integration with other computer modules and interfaces, including any new technologies emerging in the future.
  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the organization and Corewell Health System. Provides information to senior levels of management on the implication of policies and procedures being formulated and recommends specific action.
  • Keeps senior management member fully informed of technology transitions, timelines, challenges, and issue resolution. Assist in the preparation of Digital Services (DS) department strategic and financial planning.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of relevant experience in proven leadership
  • Previous hands-on experience with electronic medical records in a clinical setting
  • LIC - Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan Upon Hire

Preferred

  • Master's Degree with an Informatics Specialty
  • CRT - Board Cert Informatics Nurse (BC-IN) - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
