Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled, experienced logistician with Department of Defense transportation and distribution policy experience to support the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the National Capital Region. This position is in the Department of Defense, Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Sustainment), Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Logistics), Transportation Directorate, at the Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. We are seeking an individual who can successfully demonstrate competency in leadership, critical thinking and client relationship management while upholding the highest standard of ethical behavior to support the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the National Capital Region. Partial telework/remote permitted.

Responsibilities

Responsible for management, policy, and implementation support to the ODASD(Log) Transportation Directorate as it fulfills its mission responsibilities related to Defense transportation, distribution, and force movement policy.

Responsibilities include:

    Support Transportation Programs for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics (DASD(Log))

  • Interagency initiatives and the safe and secure movement of arms, ammunition, and explosives

  • Coordinating and communicating DoD installation access requirements for commercial carriers
  • DoD surface transportation issues involving commercial rail and highway transportation
  • Policy oversight of national surface transportation readiness programs
  • Interfacing and drafting responses to external inquiries, DoD IG, GAO audit reports, Congressional Reports, other Congressional correspondence, etc.
  • Support the development and reporting of metrics
  • Policy oversight of DoD Customs processes
  • Understand roles and responsibilities of DoD, Service and Combatant Commands transportation organizations
  • Work closely with other DoD staff elements, the Joint Staff, and USTRANSCOM and its Component Commands to ensure DoD's Strategic Transportation policy and programs remain strong and viable
  • Conduct research and provide analysis, reports, studies, courses of action recommendations, analysis of alternatives, requirements documents, white papers, and data analysis to support and prepare ODASD(Log) personnel for senior level meetings and action officer level working groups
  • Responsible for the following DoD Issuances: DoD Directive 4510.11; DoD Instruction 4500.57; 4540.07; DoDM 4510.12 along with maintaining concurrence on other DoD, Joint and Service issuances with transportation equities.
Qualifications

MINIMUM

  • Master's degree required in a logistics related discipline.
  • This position requires 15 or more years' work experience within DoD.
  • Previous experience at USTRANSCOM or its Component Commands; or Service Headquarters Logistics Staff
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • This position requires an active security clearance at the TOP SECRET level or the ability to attain. You must be a US citizen.
  • Available for occasional travel

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Senior Service school graduate.
