About the Job:

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Consumer Lending Specialist. The succesful candidate will be responsible for the complete and accurate processing, document preparation and post-closing of all consumer loan products submitted through the ACTion Loan Origination system. Interacts with underwriters, co-workers and loan officers to ensure application processing is complete and accurate. Confirms terms and structure of approved loans then completes any necessary due diligence required to create a complete loan package. Adds required stipulations to applications in the Consumer Loan Origination platform, reviews information sent by loan officers and vendors, then satisfies stips when appropriate. Maintains standard turnaround times while ensuring each loan complies with established standards, procedures and policies. Schedule loan settlement with branch. Prepares loan documentation using the LaserPro documentation system, ensuring compliance with established documentation standards, procedures and policies. Post Closing of consumer loan packages received from Branch Offices. Duties include complete and accurate processing of loan documentation packages and examination of all loan packages to assure their accuracy and completeness, disbursement of funds, fee processing, document review, filing & recording. Records and tracks the follow up of missing/incomplete loan documentation and outstanding recorded security instruments. Ensures each loan complies with established documentation standards, procedures and policies. Delivers a remarkable client experience while representing the Bank in an efficient and courteous manner.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Process consumer loan applications in an efficient manner while adhering to department guidelines for standard turnaround times and accuracy. Maintains up-to-date processes and procedures.
  • Interacts with consumer underwriting, co-workers and branch personnel to ensure application processing is complete and accurate. Initiates contact with vendors to request information needed to complete loan processing.
  • Prepares basic consumer loan documentation in an efficient manner while maintaining department guidelines for standard turnaround times and accuracy.
  • Receives and processes incoming loan packages from branch offices to ensure accuracy of documentation. Sends legal documentation for recording, processes loan fees, disburses funds, updates tickler tracking system for follow up, prepares packages for document imaging.
  • Performs review of executed loan documentation to assure accuracy and compliance with established documentation standards, procedures and policies. Processes disbursement of loan proceeds and fees into appropriate general ledger/ deposit accounts.
  • On all documentation requiring public recording, prepares documents and upon proper execution mails or has delivered to the proper authorities, retaining copies for files. Maintains Delivery Report and ensures all recorded documents are received and sent to the Collateral Management team for storage.
  • Prepares New Loan Set Up and Journal Entry forms for booking. Coordinates with the Loan Servicing team to hand-off loan for booking to FIS.
  • Maintains record of all loans in process and conducts regular pipeline reviews with management and sales staff.
  • Assists in training new employees, and cross training opportunities.
  • Represents the Bank and the unit in a courteous and professional manner to all contacts in person and by telephone by delivering a remarkable client experience. Answers questions from branch lenders and staff regarding processing of loans. Provide information on a specific loan as requested. Maintains standards for response times.
  • Assists co-workers as needed, during times of peak volume and staff absences.


Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Requires 1 to 3 years work experience in consumer lending and working knowledge of consumer loan processing, documentation and post-closing. As well as related legal issues, regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Position requires a working understanding of the loan origination system, loan documentation system, loan accounting system and credit administration procedures. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a keyboard, copier, facsimile machine, etc. Experience using word processing and spreadsheet applications required.
  • Consumer lending Regulatory Compliance requirements knowledge is required.
  • Intermediate experience with standard PC based software to prepare correspondence, reports and other documents as needed for all levels.
  • A high level of problem-solving skills is required in consumer processing, documentation and post-closing. Situations require operational knowledge of the work and of the unit, which may involve a range of possible solutions of complex nature.
  • Work requires regular internal and external contact in furnishing and obtaining information. Tact and discretion in obtaining cooperation and understanding is needed. Appropriate interpersonal skills needed to maintain a positive rapport with customers and co-workers. Work is under minimal supervision, where the work requires independent judgment in the interpretation of existing policies and procedures and the selection of alternative work routines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to instruct and guide others is required.

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.

Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.

Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
