Summary

The Lead Associate, Safeguarding, serves as technical lead to manage safeguarding, protection, and safety and security for the Policy & Advocacy Campaigns (PAC) division of Save the Children and Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. In collaboration with PAC & SCAN leadership and with the Save the Children US Safeguarding team, this position will provide guidance and support to program staff to ensure the safety, protection and wellbeing of children, families, volunteers, and staff. This position will report to the Sr. Advisor, PAC Finance & Operations with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Managing Director, Safeguarding for Save the Children US.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Safeguarding Policy and Procedures (45%)

  • Serve as the Safeguarding Focal point for all PAC & SCAN divisional constituency programs, conducting ongoing training and monitoring of program activities to ensure the program is adhering to the requirements as outlined in the safeguarding procedures, submitting periodic reports as requested to Department, Division, and Agency leadership.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the National Safeguarding Team to ensure policy and operational alignment, the collection, analysis and reporting of safeguarding data, and the mitigation of identified risks.
  • Cultivate a culture of safeguarding across programs, guiding and monitoring the implementation of active supervision and positive guidance techniques to prevent incidences of exploitation, abuse, or harm to children or adults that come into contact with our organization.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture and management staff on hiring practices and employment engagement strategies to mitigate safeguarding risks, supporting agency guidance, process and policy.
  • In partnership with division leadership and other content area managers as applicable, develop program correction action plans with measurable objectives in response to internal and external safeguarding findings and recommendations. Oversee follow-through plans, documenting progress and challenges according to identified timeframes.

Safeguarding Training and Compliance (40%)

  • Oversee compliance and scheduling of PAC GR (Government Relations) and SCAN staff safeguarding training.
  • Development and continual updating of an FAQ document of student and adult guidelines for staff to follow.
  • Manage the organization and tracking of safeguarding forms, photo storage, and compliance with safeguarding policies.
  • Responsible for background check compliance and tracking, including but not limited to: staff, SCAN board members, volunteer leaders, chaperones, and vendors.
  • Track risks and implementation of management recommendations that come from
  • Coordination with logistics and ensuring compliance with safeguarding requirements for Child Advocates who are visiting SCUS
  • Safeguarding coordination for Congressional site visits

Operations (15%)

  • Serve as Business & Technology support point person for PAC & SCAN to assist staff with technology concerns.
  • Serve as travel booking support point person for division to assist staff with issues when booking work travel. This position will also represent the PAC & SCAN divisions at SCUS Travel Council meetings.
  • Oversee mandatory training compliance tracking for division.
  • Oversee timesheet training tracking for division.
  • Ad-hoc divisional support as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate incidents and provide constructive advice and guidance, while maintaining appropriate professional confidentiality
  • Proven documentation skills that reflect an ability to convey events with accuracy, sufficient detail, and objectivity.
  • Proven experience with staff presentations and facilitating learning sessions based on knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and assess the urgency of issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally, with a proven ability and willingness to use assertiveness with staff across various levels of authority in interest of keeping children safe.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection and prevention systems and ability to identify gaps.
  • Professional experience with incident management software and/or databases.

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66,300 - $74,100 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60,350 - $67,450 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54,400 - $60,800 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available ). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
