THE POSITION

The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority's ("PhilaPort's) in-house Legal Counsel is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant to provide administrative support for a variety of matters arising as part of the PhilaPort's business management and operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

No day is the same as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant. You will be respionsible for independent document preparation and review, research and investigation requiring discretion and sound judgment, and keeping official PhilaPort records. Additional duties will include:

  • Coordinates execution of legal documents by reviewing, editing, proofreading, and summarizing a variety of documents including but not limited to, contracts, licenses, leases, Resolutions, policies, real estate closing papers and binders, deeds, memoranda, and general correspondence.
  • Maintains databases and other necessary records.
  • Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents, utilizes office filing system, including conversion from paper to electronic formats in accordance with PhilaPort' s records retention schedules.
  • Works with finance and procurement departments on billing issues.
  • Reviews and edits form agreements, highlighting areas of concern for further review by Legal Counsel.
  • Performs other administrative duties such as maintaining calendar and scheduling appointments, providing information to tenants along with other internal and external customers, independently composing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail.
  • Establish and oversee standardized procedures and workflows relating to contract and lease management.
  • Researches and analyzes facts, using primary and secondary source materials such as statutes, administrative code, case law, and public records.
  • As requested, provides additional support to Executive Director and CEO.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours 37.5 hours per week. Four different work schedules are available.
  • You must be able to travel to and from work at the PhilaPort Administrative Office Building a minimum of four (4) days a week.
  • Telework: This position will be eligible for an arrangement that permits a mixture of telework (subject to work demands) and onsite work.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent in conjunction with significant and relevant education and experience required; or
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent in Paralegal Studies.

Additional Requirements:
  • PhilaPort requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial Institution to receive their bi-weekly pay.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Paralegal certification.
  • Experience in real estate.
  • Experience in contract law.
  • Experience in Administration.
  • Current Notary Commission in PA or the ability to qualify.


Legal Requirements:

  • Candidate may be subject to a background investigation, drug test, and pre-employment physical examination.
