Role Summary

This position will serve as the system owner of brake actuation hardware across all vehicle lines. The brake actuation system comprises actuation and modulation hardware with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and software interfaces to the rest of the vehicle. The role of the actuation system owner is to guide design and release engineers (DREs) effectively to fulfill system requirements and meet program deliverables.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of brake actuation and modulation hardware from concept to production
  • Apply knowledge and experience to ensure designs meet program deliverables
  • Drive the alignment of vehicle-/system-/component-level requirements and document within the requirement tracking framework
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment of hardware, electrical architecture, controls, and software specifications
  • Coordinate complex problem-solving activity and assist in guiding DREs toward solutions
  • Advise and contribute to DFMEA, GD&T, functional safety (FuSa), and technical requirements
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and serviceability
  • Advise validation procedure (DVP&R) definition to ensure optimized, integrated, and robust designs
  • Facilitate management of designed parts in the virtual environment and support virtual build and release activities
  • Ensure timely sourcing by curating comprehensive, high-quality RFQ packages and incorporating stakeholder feedback
  • Support supplier management to deliver component designs on time and to specification
  • Diagnose field concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in design and release of brake actuation and modulation components at an automotive OEM or a tier 1 brake supplier
  • Use of strong written and verbal communication skills to serve as a representative of the brake actuation system to external teams and suppliers
  • Ability to navigate team members through complex issues by applying knowledge of problem-solving techniques
  • Hands-on experience designing in CATIA (V6/3DExperience preferred)
  • Awareness of applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with broad teams encompassing different functions
  • Deep-rooted technical curiosity, positive energy, and proactive attitude towards overcoming challenges

Pay Disclosure

Salary range for California Based Applicants: $107,800 - $134,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
