This position is located at the Potomac Job Corps Center in Washington, DC.

Reports to the Finance and Administration Director and is a salaried, exempt position. Responsible for supervising and administrating the center finance functions. Performs a variety of professional accounting duties such as monitoring various general ledger accounts, preparing, and reviewing journal entries, etc. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and abides by Odle Values and operating principles.
  • Prepares journal entries for assigned accounts according to established schedule.
  • Reviews trial balance to locate, identify and resolve all input and accounting errors.
  • Maintains center records, ledgers, and journals as necessary to determine center financial status.
  • Transmits payroll hours to the Corporate Payroll department. Maintains all other data affecting the payroll.
  • Maintains Student Government Association checking account and reports.
  • Performs analysis of various general ledger accounts by reviewing entries, compiling, and comparing transactions, determining, and resolving open items, and interpreting trends and/or deviations. This includes occasional special analyses as required.
  • Trains Accounting Clerk I and II in coding of accounts and inventory controls.
  • Maintains inventory systems established by the F&A Director.
  • Fills in for the F&A Director in his/her absence.
  • Prepares reports as required, such as the 2110 financial report.
  • Attends required staff training sessions.
  • Assesses personnel needs and works with the Human Resources department to screen and interview potential staff. Recommends promotions, transfers, and merit evaluations within the department. Conducts and prepares performance appraisals.
  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adhere to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area preferred.
  • Prefer two years or more work-related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred.

Additional Requirements: Analytical ability to reconcile and prepare reports, as well as the ability to prepare financial and other reports in a systematic, neat, and legible manner. Must possess sound working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, good organizational skills. Ability to work with detailed information. Excellent math skills. Ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately. Ability to operate a computer and proficiency in use of mathematical spreadsheets, e.g., Excel, Lotus 1-2-3. Good organizational skills. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Good communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
