Job Overview

Under direction of the Site Manager, the Recycling Specialist performs physical tasks including collecting, sorting, and disposing of recycling materials, assembly of outdoor items and minor repairs of outdoors items at the Recycling Collection Center (RCC). Utilizing provided tools and materials the Recycling Specialist will accomplish tasks such as: building trash cans, benches, and picnic tables; repairing hut siding, handles, plastic rain guards, and tool handles. The Recycling Specialist will perform physical tasks and regularly work with forklifts, a baler and pallet jacks.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • The Recycling Specialist will operate, equipment, components, and systems that support the facility.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
  • Plan, organize work, and meet all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
  • Coordinates with other personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Respond to emergency work orders as required.
  • Perform on call duties as necessary.
  • Help perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
  • May occasionally be required to operate Government or Chugach owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Will be required to perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain space and telephone answering as required.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and groups as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to the established Chugach safety, personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • At least three (1) years of relevant experience in material handling or a related discipline is required.
  • Must have general working knowledge of basic tools for minor repairs.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • U. S. Citizenship.
  • Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
  • Maintains the required Intelligence Community Security Screening.
