Job Description
Duration: 6+ months ( Possibility of Extension)  
Shift: Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Possibility of being scheduled for one day of the weekend (Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday).

Job Description:
  • The individual in the Parks Maintenance Worker role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the City, department, division, and under laws, regulations, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Maintains parks, trails, and open space as assigned including planting trees and shrubs; maintaining irrigation systems; mowing and trimming lawns, shrubs, and trees; weed control; raking leaves; and litter removal.
  • Assists in disease and pest control and horticulture as requested or needed. Aerates eradicates weeds and removes plants as needed or requested. Reports the necessity for replacements as observed.
  • Assists with installation, maintenance, and repairs (including painting) of park shelters, restrooms, picnic tables, benches, bleachers, and trash receptacles as well as scoreboards, soccer goals, park signs, other park structures, and irrigation/sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with maintenance and repairs on sprinkler irrigation systems installs or assists in installation of new sprinkler systems.
  • Safely operates construction and maintenance equipment such as pickup trucks, dump trucks, tractors, water trailers, riding mowers, hand mowers, front loaders, backhoes, tillers, aerators, snow blowers, sprayers, spreaders, weed trimmers, pruning tools, trenchers, grinders and hand-held tools for the appropriate projects. This may include heavy equipment
  • Plows, shovels, and removes snow to provide useable citizen areas during inclement weather, using a snow blower, shovel, hand tools, etc.
  • Maintains a variety of records relating to the maintenance, construction, and inspection of park systems (parks, cemeteries, open spaces, etc.).
  • Maintains operations resources and equipment regarding inventory control and resource allocation. Ensures equipment is maintained per fleet policy.
  • Completes and submits daily work reports, work orders, and payroll timesheets in an accurate and timely manner. Accepts new work assignments and schedules work hours to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Assists crew supervisor with repair, rehabilitation, and installation of taps, piping, and other sewer systems. assist the crew supervisor with the set up and maintenance of traffic components. assists crew supervisors, residents, and business owners with odor complaints,  backups, and overflows. Knowledge of GIS maps, and Fabricates traffic control barricades. Assist with setup and operation of vacuum truck equipment operator, Operates forklift and telehandler. Communicates through two-way radio.
  • Knowledge of construction, grounds, or buildings maintenance principles and practices; applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in construction, grounds, or building maintenance activities and safe work practices. Skill in following oral and written instructions; performing routine maintenance and construction tasks; operating and maintaining applicable construction, grounds and building maintenance equipment and tools and communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes, and the routine operation of power tools and/or small maintenance equipment/machines. High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required. All employees must maintain Tennessee residency from the date of Hire.
Licensing and Certifications:
  • A valid Tennessee driver's license may be required depending on the assignment.
Physical Demands:
  • Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Work Environment:
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gasses, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
