Job Description

We are seeking a Research Program Assistant II/CMA, who under general supervision job supports departmental research programs and/or clinical trials with study data collection and organization through the process of recruiting and coordinating activities for a research study. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to: patient recruitment/ interviews, data collection, data entry, organizing collected information; and records management. Additionally, the RPA II/CMA will perform clinical activities necessary for the smooth flow of patients by performing a variety of duties to assist in the care and safety of the patients.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Research


Enrollment

  • Contact eligible patients to discuss interest and willingness to switch from oral to LAI-ART and to enroll into the program.


Scheduling

  • Coordinate injection visit between patient, nursing, and schedulers.
  • Contact patients to remind about appointments, assess drug tolerability, and answer any questions or concerns.


Payment

  • Assist with process of billing and reimbursement procedures.
  • Facilitate drug approval for payor sources covering LAI-CAB/RPV through pharmacy benefits/medical benefits.
  • Work with medical director to provide needed documentation for prior authorizations, appeals, etc.


Administration/Monitoring

  • Administer long-acting injectable medication.
  • Monitor for manufacturer recommended time.


Procurement

  • Pursue drug procurement for all patients approved by respective payor source (injectable therapy), including interfacing with the ViiVConnect portal for each patient (if oral lead-in used)
  • Receive, store, and maintain drug inventory (oral lead-in and injectable therapy) via "clear bagging" mechanism.


Participant Tracking

  • Work closely with the medical and program directors to maintain and updated clinical database on a weekly basis.
  • Support the program director with patient tracking and monitoring and other duties as assigned.


Medical

  • Take patient's complete vital signs, history, and note allergies with initials and credentials noted in the computer.
  • Obtain all specimens including venipuncture for lab tests ordered by clinicians.
  • Perform in house laboratory tests as protocol indicates and ordered by clinicians.
  • Prepare lab specimens and accurately complete forms for transport.
  • Perform injections as ordered by the clinician and utilize the computer system for documentation.
  • As applicable inspect, clean, and stock supplies in clinician's exam rooms, Observation Room and Procedure Room.
  • Adhere to standard precautions for infection control.
  • Share the responsibility for ongoing assessment of quality and efficiency of patient care services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Incumbent may need to travel to affiliate sites as required.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.
  • Reliable transportation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, AMT, NAHP).
  • Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Must maintain current MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
