The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: This is the entry-level clerical-auditing and clerical-accounting work at a toll facility or other location managed by the MDTA. The employee works in the E-ZPass Customer Service Center (CSC) located in a MDTA facility and/or inside the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) facility and is responsible for receiving, verifying, and accounting for variable sums of money collected and handling face-to-face E-ZPass/Video toll transactions with the public.

The position is responsible for handling all revenue payment types, greeting customers, and opening new E-ZPass transponder to the public. The employee is responsible for providing customer service, analyzing/researching customer accounts, data entry, and performing a series of computations using equipment such as a cash drawer, computer terminal, specialized software application, adding machine, currency and coin counter, and transponder reader. The work requires some lifting of moderately heavy items.

The individual will receive supervision from an MDTA Customer and Revenue Agent Lead or other designated official and does not supervise other employees. This incumbent may be assigned to a rotating or permanent shift that involves evening, weekend, and holiday work.

The current vacancies exist in Cecil/Harford Counties. The incumbent selected will work a rotating schedule between the E-ZPass CSC in Perryville, MD, MVA/CSC in Bel Air, MD, and MVA/CSC in Elkton, MD. The resulting eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification throughout the agency.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications


Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of clerical or accounting experience involving the receipt of handling of, and accounting for money and/or checks and credit cards in connection with commercial or government activities, and including the provision of customer service to the public.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent oral communication skills required to interact with external customers and with people at various levels within an organization;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to respond verbally to customer inquiries;
  • Ability to provide prompt, accurate and courteous service to the public;
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently; and
  • Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations.

Licenses & Certifications

Additional Information

1. This is an "Emergency Essential" classification subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this classification must be willing and available to remain on or report for duty day or night, in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
