Purpose

The Blanton Museum of Art seeks a Facilities Assistant to support the general maintenance, operations, and building services oversight of the Blanton Museum of Art three-building complex and newly expanded grounds. The Facilities Assistant will perform maintenance and repair tasks as assigned to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe interior and exterior environment for museum visitors and staff. This position reports to the Building Manager.

Responsibilities

Perform general building and grounds maintenance activities

  • Perform routine building maintenance tasks, including light bulb replacement and touch up paint as needed

  • Maintain a clean interior and exterior of building and grounds

  • Assist with technical repairs

  • Conduct general facilities walkthroughs and report nonstandard conditions

  • Enter service requests in UT service ticket system (WORQS) and report when work is completed

  • Maintain ongoing pest abatement routine

  • Move furniture, equipment, and materials

  • Clean and arrange furniture

Maintain sufficient supply inventory as well as condition and inventory of university maintenance equipment

  • Pick up supplies from vendors

  • Monitor and order supplies when needed

  • Monitor and maintain university maintenance equipment for safety and retention

Serve as site contact for service providers from other university departments/outside vendors

  • Escort facilities and outside vendors and report work completed

  • Communicate with other departments on campus, including Custodial Services and Landscape Services

Perform other related duties as requested to support departmental and museum-wide priorities, logistics, and special projects.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1 year of experience as a laborer

  • Ability to use small hand and power tools and ladders

  • Basic to intermediate painting skills sufficient to perform interior and exterior painting tasks

  • Goal and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and high standards for excellence and accountability

  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner

  • Must be willing and able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds

  • General computer skills

  • Good communication skills both verbally and written

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours to support museum-wide programs

  • Professional and friendly demeanor

  • Quick learner

  • Strong work ethic with high energy

  • Ability to work independantly

  • Have and maintain a good driving record and be able to operate a UT vehicle

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in a museum, commercial property management or similar environment

  • Knowledge of UT structure, policies, rules, and procedures

  • Experience with UT WORQS

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$40,000.00

Work Shift

General Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. To support museum-wide programs, work hours and days are subject to change.
