DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

This position will provide leadership for the Surgical PCU at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Medical Center. It is a unique unit that advocates for patient safety and satisfaction through transformational leadership, innovation, and empowerment of the professional nurse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum three (3) years of acute care RN experience.

  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.

  • Demonstrates approachability, positive attitude, and ability to establish trust with the team.

  • Strong hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MSN

  • Clinical area certification or Nursing Administration Certification (i.e. TNCC, CEN, MICN).

  • Charge nurse and/or supervisory experience.

  • Experience teaching, coaching, precepting registered nurses.

  • Professional development such as committee involvement, performance improvement projects, national or local professional organization involvement.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in preceptorship and mentorship, actively advocates for nursing, serves as a role model, exhibits a solution-oriented approach, adept at problem-solving and articulating a vision for solutions that inspires others, facilitates the development of problem-solving skills in others, actively engages in initiatives to reward and acknowledge staff, fosters a culture of innovation, and upholds a just culture.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • This position may work 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts with both clinical and administrative duties.

  • This position requires regular night shift coverage and is eligible for shift differentials.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
