This Opportunity

Seeking a full-time Power Generator Lead Mechanic lll in support of LOGCAP V. Join our team and grow with us as we provide best in-class services that help clients solve their most complex challenges.

Your Impact

  • Serve under the direction of Power Plant Manager/Power Generation Manager to operate and maintain power plant/spot power generators & equipment
  • Promote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and procedures
  • Report to the Supervisor on all special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service. Anticipate unscheduled load changes, and detect early indications of power generating equipment malfunctions in order to maintain continuous service
  • Troubleshoot and make comparable major repairs to Gensets, powered support systems, vehicles, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components)
  • Rebuild and/or overhaul-to include top end, in frame and complete-Gensets, powered support systems, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, hydraulic, pneumatic and 12/24vdc electrical components
  • Assist in the control and distribution of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines (e.g., PMCS, break down repairs, periodic maintenance, and overhauling those of 3 to 16 cylinders and up to 2MW of power)
  • When power production malfunctions occur and to ensure personnel and equipment safety, assist to isolate generator/s and bypass fault in order to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintained
  • Ensure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized High Voltage Networks or Switchgear
  • When workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, assist with daily Power Plant or Spot Gen operations to include bringing online/offline gensets, synchronizing/paralleling gensets, taking hourly generator readings, fueling in power plant environment, electrical distribution installation/maintenance, facility maintenance, housekeeping, etc
  • When workload/mission/staffing levels dictate, assist with MV/LV electrical/Power Plant operations teams with installation/removal of electrical distribution equipment
  • Fill in required genset service/periodic maintenance/repair documents/reports and turn over to Lead Power Plant Operator or Spot Generation Supervisor
  • Ensure required documentation/reporting is submitted in a timely manner
  • Request/retrieve service/maintenance/repair parts/components from Prime Contractor Consolidated Material Warehouse and transport to genset/powerplant service/repair location
  • Attend/deliver daily Safety meetings/stand downs IAW with VGS and Prime contractor policies
  • Most senior Power Gen Mechanic and Team leader for power generating equipment in spot gen or power plant environment at assigned work location
  • Take ownership of Power Plant or Spot generator fleet to ensure repairs, maintenance, overhauls, etc. are performed with utmost of quality/safety in mind and IAW manufactures service/maintenance recommendations
  • Assist Prime contractor Procurement/Materials staff with acquiring repair parts/consumables by suppling Genset model data, part numbers, descriptions and technical oversight when required
  • Willingness to attend formal OEM specific genset and/or controls training
  • Accountability for power gen mechanic staff, tools, manuals, and gen set status-FMC/NMC
  • Ensure less experienced members of power gen mechanic team are performing services/minor repairs to high quality standards and IAW manufactures recommendations
  • Ensure power generator staff are performing service/maintenance/repair duties IAW US Military, Prime Contractor, Host Nation and VGS Environmental/Hazmat policies and procedures
  • Attend VGS EHS (Electrical Health & Safety) training and establish a status of CP (Competent Person), AP (Authorized Person) or SAP (Senior Authorized Person)
  • Thorough understanding of oil sample analysis process as well as interpretation of oil analysis reports
  • Operate/perform within the behavioral guidelines/policies/procedures put forth by USG, US Military Command, Host Nation, Prime Contractor and VGS
  • Execute the company's policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network to support LOGCAP V
  • Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to tropical climatic conditions including frequent rainstorms, high humidity and temperatures up to 95F degrees in the summer months
  • Must be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periods.
  • As directed by the Supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date. Passport must have a minimum of 6 blank pages prior to OCONUS mobilization.
  • Must satisfy the USARPAC Force Health Protection Guidance medical requirements for INDOPACOM prior to OCONUS mobilization, must be able to maintain a Medically Qualified (MQ) rating on an annual basis.
  • Must meet the Republic of the Marshall Islands (host nation) COVID-19 entry requirements; COVID-19 vaccination(s), fully inoculated and Booster.
  • Must be CAC eligible and able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in medium to large scale operation, maintenance and complete overhaul of prime power diesel gensets (50-60 liter engines)
  • Caterpillar Mech III Mechanic Certification or equivalent
  • Caterpillar Engine Certification/s for 3508, 3606, C28012/16, 3616 Caterpillar engines
  • High skill level with CAT ET application and ECM calibration reflash/programming

Additional Required Qualifications

  • US CAC eligible
  • Experience in maintenance, repair, operation and troubleshooting of genset systems (fuel, induction, cooling, controls, exhaust, engine internal & peripheral) of gen sets ranging from 15Kw to 2Mw
  • Experience using all types hand and power tools, shop equipment such as hydraulic presses, drill presses, hydraulic, electric or pneumatic lifting devices, etc
  • Experience using all types of measuring devices such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauges, etc
  • Experienced in working with other technical staff
  • Ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides covering the complete assembly, troubleshooting, and layout of power generators and/or support systems
  • Experienced working in international work environments with expatriate or US military
  • A thorough knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components including: Standard Diesel generators, Controls to include genset synchronizing and paralleling, genset communication/monitoring systems such as PULSE SCADA and Switchgear
  • Proactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating and working with (1) Other senior managers and staff (to include Site management team), (2) Local and International subcontractors; (3) US Military representatives; and (4) Local officials as required
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling and working outdoors. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Ability to follow troubleshooting procedures and use deductive reasoning to isolate the fault; and provide step by step feedback on all steps taking
  • Able to take specific verbal and written directions and carryout directions from the supervisor. Decisions made are covered by specific, well-established work methods and procedures
  • In the event problems arise, mechanics at this level are able take corrective action in accordance with instructions or notify their supervisor
  • Experience in providing prime power O&M Services to clients
  • Hands on inspect, test, and repair components of electrical systems to include generators, transformers, transfer switches, switch gear, PLC controls, and fuel monitoring and delivery systems
  • Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards for electrical and mechanical trades, related safety practices, and skill required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generator systems and equipment
  • Basic knowledge and trained with current certification of First Aid & CPR
  • Must rescue an injured victim from an electrical conductor
  • Must know Lockout/Tagout Procedures
  • Ability to read, comprehend/understand and apply information contained in manufacturer equipment manuals, facility document including drawings and specification, operation and maintenance manuals, standard operating and emergency response procedures, material safety data sheets, etc
  • Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problems
  • Specific understanding and knowledge of power generation equipment startup and shut down and basic equipment maintenance procedures as they relate to the power generation equipment and/or auxiliary operator
  • Must have knowledge of use and proper application of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Basic skill level with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required. Intermediate level is preferred
  • 10+ years as Lead Generator Mech III
  • Provide Certificates and/or willingness to attend formal training
