JOB SUMMARY: The Custodian provides cleaning services in the assigned building under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean facility that includes offices, restrooms, kitchen/cafeteria, and building grounds and perimeter.
  • Assist with cleanup of spills and standing water.
  • Follow specific step-by-step cleaning directions including proper use of vacuum and wet vacuum.
  • Utilize floor stripping and cleaning equipment such as floor scrubber and high-speed buffer, and burnisher.
  • Clean and help maintain carpets using the required cleaning equipment and supplies, e.g., carpet extractor, shampooer.
  • Notify the Supervisor of low supply inventory.
  • Participate in regular training and safety exercises.
  • Assist as a backup custodial worker to other contracts as needed.
  • May assist with clearing sidewalks and salting during snow and inclement weather requiring a change in scheduled time of arrival.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic reading and writing education.
  • One-year custodial experience working in a large (greater than 100,000 sf) facility.
  • May require a Dept. of Homeland Security clearance.
  • Statement of Disability.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to communicate and convey messages properly.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations. Skill to operate janitorial equipment.
