Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for supporting lab and general BioLegend operations through various environmental health and safety initiatives and lab support tasks. Coordinates and maintains company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations as well as responding to spills and other emergency situations.

Essential Functions

  • Support the Environmental Health and Safety team in preparing documentation for Federal, State, and Local agencies
  • Assist in documenting and preparing hazardous waste for shipment
  • Maintain training records and provide training for employees
  • Investigates accidents and injuries
  • Provide technical advice and expertise on environmental health and safety matters
  • Document safety issues and assist in preparing plans to address them
  • Perform walkthrough of lab, industrial, and administrative areas to identify safety or regulatory violations
  • Maintain and update the database of Safety Data Sheets available to employees
  • Assist labs in the management of hazardous and biohazardous wastes
  • Serve as a liaison between environmental health and safety group and other employees
  • Work with all departments to meet safety and efficiency goals
  • Respond to a wide variety of situations and provide safety expertise
  • Coordinate and conduct safety committee meetings
  • Ensure preventative maintenance on safety equipment
  • Minor travel within the city of San Diego
  • Other projects or responsibilities as may be required.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 1 year of lab safety or related experience
  • Coursework in: Chemistry, Biology, Safety, Regulatory law, Occupational Health & Safety

Preferred Qualifications - Education and Experience

  • GSP or ASP, IH or related certification
  • HAZWOPER
  • DOT/IATA certification

The base salary range for this full-time position is $33 - $43.00/hr. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
